Participating in something requires action! Worshiping God in spirit and in truth requires the involvement of spirit, soul and body. One essential aspect is the verbalization of praise. Regardless of personality types or liturgical forms: praising God requires the mouthing of adoration and glory. Saying it does it.

In every realm of relationships, career and undertakings, there are basic requirements and boundaries which must be observed. Finding and following God is no different. We just can't cut our own pattern and choose our own pathway. Take it or leave it: God acts like God and sets the way to find him. Here is a basic "must." But it's actually very positive in intent, though it sounds very negative in nature.

      <itunes:author>Eric Versluis</itunes:author>
		<itunes:subtitle>Stand-alone sermon (not part of a series)</itunes:subtitle>

As a disciple of Jesus we are to live our lives as Jesus would live them. This means it's helpful for us to regularly ask the question 'What Would Jesus Do'. But how can we know what Jesus would do if we don't know what He did? Today we take a look at a day in the life of Jesus to see what He did so that we can know what to do. And once we know what to do...what happens then?

Extreme Home Makeover: When Jesus Moves Into Our Lives...What Happens To All Of Our Stuff?

      <itunes:author>Eric Versluis</itunes:author>
		<itunes:subtitle>Stand-alone sermon (not part of a series)</itunes:subtitle>

If we've spent anytime in church at all, we're probably familiar with the imagery of 'inviting Jesus to live in our heart'. This can be a scary metaphor because Jesus is pretty spiritual (He is the Son of God after all) and most of the stuff in our lives (work, education, family, friends, tv, hobby's, facebook, bills, sleep) doesn't seem very spiritual at all. Does truly following Jesus mean we have to get rid of all the unspiritual furniture in our lives? Does more of Jesus mean less of me? Is there room for the two of us in the house of my heart? This morning we wrestle with these questions and offer some different imagery that may help to encourage us to invite Jesus into every room of our lives.

When life has hit you hard and now you hide in your hurts, it's easy to just sit and watch time go by. Spiritually, you may not be doing anything bad, but neither are you necessary doing much good. Responding to God's call and purpose for us requires that we step out of our comfort and safety zone to where we take risks in trusting God. Opening up our lives to what he wills may not be where we want to go, but if you start the journey, the joy of intimate fellowship with God makes it well worth while.

If we take an honest look at ourselves, we come to realize that we all have a spiritual dysfunction. The question is, now that we've realized we have flaws and weaknesses, what are we going to do about it? In our culture, (including the church), we tend to hide our weakness by misdirecting people's attention away from our flaws. Is this healthy? Is there a better way of dealing with this?

We feel better when we make them better; and we feel bad when they aren't good. We end up trying to control everyone, while out of control of ourselves. Anything just to excess to fill your emptiness can become an addiction, even religion. . . yes, even prayer. When have you crossed the line spiritually into using spiritual things to fill the spot God is suppose to have in your life?

Spiritual Abuse is any action in any religious context or otherwise, that distorts a victim's view of God as lacking love and grace, or that makes a person feel that one must earn or deserve the love and grace of God. The consequences are devastating, producing fear and shame. Jesus shows us a true view of God, others and self that liberates from this bondage. Instead of what I must do and what you must do, we discover what God has done.

Our culture tells us that if we just follow our heart, everything will be ok. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that "the heart is deceitful above all else". Which is it? The tendency is to create a set of rules telling us what we should and shouldn't do in any situation so our hearts don't have the opportunity to lead us astray. But rules don't really solve the root problem: the broken, fallen nature of our hearts. In this teaching we discuss all of this and discover the solution that the prophet Jeremiah promises and that the apostle Paul explains.

The evidence says yes; the critics say no. The verdict has significant ramifications. Paul's apologetic for the resurrection prefigures modern defense methods of this truth.

Why does tragedy strike? Why does God allow bad things to happen? These are the sorts of questions that we as Christians should be wrestling with. In this message we begin dealing with the question of how we reconcile the existence of a benevolent and omnipotent God with what appears to be genuine evil? Maybe if we have a better understanding of what evil is it'll help us get a better perspective on these questions.

Song Of The Month - February: All Of My Life

      <itunes:author>Kurtis Felsman</itunes:author>
		<itunes:subtitle>Stand-alone sermon (not part of a series)</itunes:subtitle>

To help keep things simple and assist in uniting our church in worship, we have decided to try something that we are calling the PSPT Song of the Month. Instead of semi-randomly adding in a new song to our roster of worship songs and then playing it sporadically over a period of a couple months, we've decided that we will simply introduce one new song each month and make that song a part of EVERY worship service for the entire month. Hopefully, this will give everyone a chance to grow comfortable with a new song and we trust the regular repetition should make these songs much easier to learn and love!

The Song Of The Month also allows us all to focus our energies on one song. Instead of trying to learn several new songs at one time, we just have to learn one. In addition, we hope that by focusing in on one particular song, we will be able to share some of the stories behind each song with you, allowing you to get to know the songwriters intent a little better so that we all have a better understanding of where each song came from and what it's trying to say.

For the very first song of the month we are pleased to be able to choose a song from a member of our very own congregation. Kurt Felsman has been an integral part of our worship team for well over a decade and is not only a talented musician, worship leader and vocalist but an excellent songwriter as well. We've chosen his song 'All Of My Life' as our Song Of The Month because we feel that it's lyric's of surrender to God and it's invitation for more of God's presence in our lives are wonderful expressions of what the heart's cry of a disciple of Jesus should be. Take a listen, sing along and we hope that over the next month you, as you come to know and love this song, it will become a cry of your heart and a new way of expressing worship to our Heavenly Father!

Joseph's brothers are faced with their past and now must deal with it, if they are to have a future. God loves you too much to put a band aid on a cancerous sin. . . he will cut it out.
Most of us try to avoid feeling pain whenever possible because pain is not a pleasant experience. But is it possible that how we respond to our pain, the attitude we choose when faced with suffering, is actually what defines what type of person we are? Today we look at Joseph's 'luggage' and how he responded to the pain and adversity in his life and compare it to how his father, Jacob, dealt with his pain. At the end of the message we played the song 'Less Like Scars' by Sara Groves which is not included in the podcast for copyright reasons. You can find 'Less Like Scars' on iTunes or view the music video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9RDNuUz7Sk.

So just what is the good life? Joseph finally gets fair play. He is promoted to national leadership, granted authority and power, entitled to riches and fame, and even given a high society lady as wife. Not bad for the kid who used to tend sheep. But he never forgot God, even when loaded with the blessings of life. It is possible to be godly and have the good things of life too. Just as long as it is in that order. Jesus didn't say you had to choose between riches and righteousness. He warned that you have to put righteousness over riches. God is good. That means you can enjoy the good things he gives to you. Here's how!

God places into each person a 'dream' of what He intends to do in and through him or her. As in Joseph's case, it sometimes takes years and many struggles to realize its fulfilment. What is the dream God has given you? Is it still alive or dead? What are you doing with it? Wherever you're at in life, the dream still exists for God's purposes are eternal. Discern what the dream is all about and you'll see things God is doing in your life which you might never have recognized otherwise.

Maybe it's because we've eaten so much that our bodies are worn out from working so hard to digest it all? Maybe it's some sort of chemical in the Turkey that makes us tired? Maybe it's because we're working so hard without ever stopping to rest that when we do stop, all of our tiredness catches up with us. Maybe we're out of rhythm with the way God created us to live? Maybe we've lost sight of a very ancient way of living that might be able to help us find some rest?

When a Church Needs To Be Bothered

      <itunes:author>Pastor David </itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Series: The Church: Something Worth Bothering About. Sermon #5</itunes:subtitle>

When a church is just going through the routines, it needs to be shaken up and straightened out. We're not doing the Great Commission when we don't know where we're going or what we're doing. After you develop a Mission Statement (with purpose and process), then comes a Vision of what that will look like. However, without a Strategy, nothing happens. This message concludes a five part series on the Church: Something Worth Bothering About. It is a chat about the strategy of implementing our mission and vision in this local church. You'll need to go the the downloads section and check out the chart on Mission Process Strategy to follow this message.

Where The Church Should Bother To Go

      <itunes:author>David Slauenwhite</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Series: The Church: Something Worth Bothering About. Sermon #4</itunes:subtitle>

What makes a church 'alive'? Maybe the difference between an ineffective church and an effective church is not the number of programs it runs or the style of service it offers. Maybe the difference is simply focus; what is the purpose driving all of these programs and services? Are they helping the church achieve it's mission or are they getting in the way? In this message we apply principals from Jesus' leadership and ministry in order to help us develop a strategy and vision in order to effectively accomplish the Mission Statement of our church.
